The Men's Center Board appreciates the volunteer presenters who return from time to time and welcome first timers. Their presentations add a new dimension to our weekly Wednesday night gatherings.

Please take time to read the descriptions and plan to attend if they stimulate your interest. Bring a friend to share the experience and acquaint him/her with the Men's Center. Each presentation is intended to promote personal growth, stimulate your interest in a topic, and to give you an opportunity to interact with other attendees.

We are always looking for new presenters and topics. Please call Randy at The Men's Center, 612-822-5892 with your ideas and names. We appreciate your help.

The Men's Center is a RESOURCE for the community, a clearing house for information of all kinds, agreeable or not, to one's beliefs. Listen, participate and make your own decisions.

All groups meet at TMC, 3249 Hennepin Ave. So, Suite 55, unless otherwise noted. These low cost presentations are shown in the Calendar of Events and a more extensive description follows. No pre-registration is needed; entrance fees collected at the door are:

Sexual Trauma

Sexual Trauma, from a single incident to ongoing abuse, affects a man's life in many different areas: form self esteem, sexual behavior and work performance, to impairment in establishing and maintaining intimate relationships. This workshop is designed to be interactive in discussing the impact that sexual trauma has had on your (or a partner's) life. We will talk about strategies to aid in the healing process.

John Bullough, LICSW, is a psychotherapist at the Neighborhood Involvement Program specializing in sexual trauma recovery. He practices in two NIP and NIP Therapy Associates. John is a previous presenter at the Men's Center.

Building Self-Esteem In Men

Building Self-Esteem in Men explores not only the self-esteem cycle but the battle with shame that so often chisels away at self-esteem. Shame can be countered and self-esteem heightened by taking control with some simple, yet effective, tools and applying them consistently. Come join Rich for a closer look at strategies to create more success and happiness in your life.

Rich has been speaking on wellness issues for over 10 years in the Twin Cities area, in a variety of settings. His topics range from self-esteem to assertiveness to mental health. Rich has worked in many fields, most recently as a paraprofessional in a junior high settings -- speaking in a number of classes in the school.

Coping With Stress: Strategies for Managing and Reducing Stress

In this presentation participants will learn about causes and effects of stress and techniques for stress management.

Dr. O'Neill is a licensed psychologist with a Ph.d. in clinical psychology from Ohio State University. He provides assessment, individual and group therapy and marital therapy. He has extensive clinical providing consultation to physicians, educators, and psychologists. His treatment of adults deals with cardio- pulmonary disease, obesity, stress management and others.

Retirement, or is it Refirement

Many men look forward to retirement to shed the burden of workday life, others fear retirement and wonder what they will do when employment is not part of their weekly schedule. Which ever feeling better describes you, Come and share your briefly, and watch "Refirement" the title of a video by James Gambrino which will help you find more meaning after retirement.

Norm is 66 years. old, a VA Psychologist eligible for retirement, but so far has not chosen to make that life change. In an effort to deal with his mixed feelings about retirement he began a retirement support group over a year ago at the Men's Center. It meets the third Sunday evening at 5:30 pm. Please come !

Lighten Up : It's Only Change

Are you tired of dealing with difficulties, change and uncertainty ? The purpose or benefit of this presentation is to provide information, coaching tools, and resources needed to view change from new and helpful perspectives. Recognize you potential. Learn to achieve greater well-being: integration of body, mind and spirit. and apply the three stages of change: unfreezing, movement, refreezing. You will contrast and apply eight perspectives when experiencing change and/or transition.

Navigating Difficult Conversations: Why Being Right Won't Help

Then come to a seminar on difficult conversations. Based on the pioneering work of the Harvard Negotiation Project, we'll spend two hours on a experiential, exciting journey exploring the hidden side of conversation where feelings, identity, assumptions and goals all jockey for your loyalty. Explore contributions, discard blaming behaviors and move on to navigating difficult conversations with you integrity and feelings intact.

Harry Greenberg is a trained mediator assigned to Ramsey County Court Services in Minnesota. His work as an external consultant is focused in the area of organizational development with special emphasis on conflict management systems and anger management programming. Both his paid and volunteer work incorporate his lifelong commitment to the elimination of institutional racism and social and economic justice.

Relationships, A Healing Tool

Your most deeply held beliefs, many of them unconscious beliefs, are creating your experiences in life. If you would like you relationships to improve, and you realize that this will mean changing your core beliefs, you are invited to attend this exciting presentation. You will receive tools and techniques which when used, will show immediate results. It really is possible to have the empowering and loving relationships you desire ! This is an opportunity to raise the consciousness of individuals and partners, so they can release many stress levels and detract from the quality of life.

Peter Campbell is a minister and a graduate of Theophilus Divinity School. He has led workshops on self-esteem, relationships, prosperity, and releasing guilt and sacrifice. He has also lessons in a Course In Miracles. Peter brings the insights, he's gained from his experience to each workshop atmosphere of love and compassion as well.

Diabetes: How Sweet It Isn't

Type II Diabetes is explained in everyday terms as a growing health problem that leads to heart disease, blindness, amputation, impotence or kidney dialysis. Easily prevented and difficult to control, this disease deserves our attention. come and learn more about diabetes and how you can avoid it and/or live with it.

Peter Mitchel is a Master's prepared, board certified registered nurse practitioner working in primary care with men at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mr. Mitchell's affiliations include the Mens Center, Minnesota Nurses Association, Minnesota Public Health Association, and Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing. Peter Mitchell is not affiliated nor has any particular financial interest in any drug or medical device firms.

Vivation - The Skill of Happiness
Presenter: Alexi Kolov & Hank Bruns

This presentation will introduce you to Vivation. Vivation is an internal, breath-based skill that can help you to overcome blocks to success such as lack of sellf-worth, fear, anger, sadness, self-imposed , family or cultural limitations and others. Vivation uses circular breathing (no pauses between inhale and exhale" to change the way you experience the energy in your body.
Alexi Kalov was born in Siberia, Russia and spent time in the Russian army. He is a an organizer of meetings and symposiums. His goal is to establish a Center for Vivation. He is a professional in self-hypnosis. He has also organized adoptions of children from Siberia.

Hank Bruns is a longtime member of the Mens Center. He has been a board member, currently facilitates groups and anger management classes. He is a certified Reiki practitioner.
