| The Men's Center Board appreciates the volunteer presenters who return from time to time and welcome first timers. Their presentations add a new dimension to our weekly Wednesday night gatherings.
Please take time to read the descriptions and plan to attend if they stimulate your interest. Bring a friend to share the experience and acquaint him/her with the Men's Center. Each presentation is intended to promote personal growth, stimulate your interest in a topic, and to give you an opportunity to interact with other attendees. Creating Your Own Spiritual Practice

This presentation and discussion is based on the topic "Creating Your Own Spiritual Practice". Major elements that will be covered are:
- creating your own sanctuary (sacred space
- balance - identifying important areas in a person's life and putting them in relationship
- nourishing your spiritual life, reading, etc.
- mediation - and importance of it
- mindfulness
- service
This presentation and discussion is, generally, generic in nature and takes people where they are at.
Vern Paul is a retired design manager who spent about thirty five years in the high-tech industry. Formal education is in electrical engineering and mathematics. his avocation is spirituality and is a trained spiritual guide. His core views are that the essence of all the worlds spiritual traditions, including indigenous ones, are about transformation of consciousness and that lead the individual to wholeness and holiness.
Living Without Procrastination

To varying degrees, procrastination is problematic for most people. In one survey 40 percent of those polled reported that procrastination had cost them money in the past year. While it may be linked to more serious mental health issues, it can be assessed and treated in and of itself. This interactive course will focus on how to help individuals understand and define procrastination problems. We will explore strategy and interventions to eliminate this self-defeating behavior. Learning objectives: complete written inventory and determine your procrastination type/profile.Understanding procrastination patterns and stages of change. Learn multiple techniques for changing procrastination patterns. Learn how to change the way your think, speak and act.
T. Aaron Ridge, MS, LP, LICSW, is a licensed psychologist, certified Bioenergetic therapist and a life coach. He is in private practice at the Center for Relationship Therapy in Northeast Minneapolis, Aaron has 15 years experience working with couples, individuals and families on relationship issues. He is a Keeping Love Alive group facilitator and instructor for the Minnesota State and Community Colleges. Aaron leads various groups and seminars, in corporations, organizations and Open U. He has studied psychotherapy and personal growth with experts from all over the United States, including recently Solution Focused Therapy with Michelle Wiener-Davis and training at the Coaches Training Institute.
Energy Medicine for Men

Energy Medicine for Men's Physical and Emotional Wellness. We are energetic beings. Traditional cultures have honored and worked with this knowledge for thousands of years as part of Oriental Medicine, Aurvedic, shamanism, and many other forms of folk medicine. Modern medical research is now confirming this with sensitive instrumentation, validating the ancient maps of acupuncture meridians and points, chakras and other biomagnetic structures.These energetic structures underpin every aspect of our bodily functions.For thousands of years the Chinese physician-scholars have taught that our emotions are also a form of energy that can be balanced with energetic means just as our physical functions can. Flows of energy connect our physical health and emotional wellness.This presentation will focus on applications of energy medicine specific to the needs of men who are seeking to be more physically healthy and more emotionally alive. Numerous case histories taken from clinical experience will be used to illustrate the benefits of this form of work.
Al Coffman is a Licensed Acupuncturist with a Master's Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. He practices at the Holly House Center for Integrated Health Care in Saint Paul.

The Hunt for Epiphany

I was born on twelfth night, Epiphany. However it wasn't until my 40th birthday when alone and facing imminent death that Epiphany put my soul at ease. At that moment I promised that if I survived I would "spread the word".
Dr. Stephen Zuckerman is an internist practicing with the Aspen Medical Group in Minneapolis. He ha practiced medicine in Minneapolis, San Francisco, and Truk Island, where he was also head of Diving Medicine and diving tour leader. Through his various encounters in life, he managed as a physician others have identified as wholistic.

Your feelings do not make you do, or not do, anything. Did you know ? Your behaviors are directly controllable; you are responsible for everything you do, regardless of how you feel. Constructive Living is a simple life-skills program that accepts feelings just as they are, goes about looking for and "doing what needs to be done."
Jim Guswiler is a certified Constructive Living Instructor. He provides individual and group instruction programs. Jim is a frequent presenter at the Mens Center.

Legal Help For Child Support Kelley will assist men in preparing responsive paperwork and provide an hour's worth of guidance in creating responsive pleading and preparing motion for the hearing. This will enable individuals to present their case independently without the expense of council, being of substantial immediate value for the participant. Ticks & Mosquitoes: They Can Be More Than Just Pests In Minnesota

Most of Minnesota's abundant ticks and mosquitoes are just pests, but some can transmit diseases of public health concern. Deer ticks can transmit agents of Lyme disease and two other diseases. Certain mosquitoes transmit viruses that may cause encephalitis. Fortunately, there are many things that people can do to reduce the disease risk. Though this is an "off season" for ticks and mosquitoes, the information offered during this presentation will be helpful next summer. Be sure they'll be here then.
David Nietzell is an epidemiologist for the Minnesota Department of Health. David has worked on mosquito and tick-transmitted diseases in Minnesota since 1985; 1987 - 1995 Responsible for disease prevention programs at the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District; 1996 - present: Responsible for vector borne disease monitoring and prevention.
Sexual Trauma

Sexual Trauma, from a single incident to ongoing abuse, affects a man's life in many different areas: form self esteem, sexual behavior and work performance, to impairment in establishing and maintaining intimate relationships. This workshop is designed to be interactive in discussing the impact that sexual trauma has had on your (or a partner's) life. We will talk about strategies to aid in the healing process.
John Bullough, LICSW, is a psychotherapist at the Neighborhood Involvement Program specializing in sexual trauma recovery. He practices in two NIP and NIP Therapy Associates. John is a previous presenter at the Men's Center.
