The Men's Center Board appreciates the volunteer presenters who return from time to time and welcome first timers. Their presentations add a new dimension to our weekly Wednesday night gatherings.

Please take time to read the descriptions and plan to attend if they stimulate your interest. Bring a friend to share the experience and acquaint him/her with the Men's Center. Each presentation is intended to promote personal growth, stimulate your interest in a topic, and to give you an opportunity to interact with other attendees.

We are always looking for new presenters and topics. Please call Randy at The Men's Center, 612-822-5892 with your ideas and names. We appreciate your help.

Presentations are the sole responsibility of the presenter(s). The Men's Center does not endorse, takes no specific position, nor does it hold any opinion on the presentations, or of any information imparted, or of the presenter(s) themselves.

The Men's Center is a RESOURCE for the community, a clearing house for information of all kinds, agreeable or not, to one's beliefs. Listen, participate and make your own decisions.

All groups meet at TMC, 3249 Hennepin Ave. So, Suite 55, unless otherwise noted. These low cost presentations are shown in the Calendar of Events and a more extensive description follows. No pre-registration is needed; entrance fees collected at the door are:

  • Non-Members of TMC $5.
  • Regular Members ($20 level) - $3
  • Patron Members - FREE

Sexual Trauma
Presenter:John Bullough

Sexual Trauma, from a single incident to ongoing abuse, affects a man’s life in many different areas: from self-esteem, sexual behavior and work performance, to impairment in establishing and maintaining intimate relationships. This workshop is designed to be interactive in discussing the impact that sexual trauma has had on your (or a partner’s life. We will also talk about strategies to aid in the healing process.

John Bullough, LICSW, is a psychotherapist at the Neighborhood Involvement Program specializing in sexual trauma recovery. He practices in two NIP programs: the Rape & Sexual Assault Center and NIP Therapy Associates. John is previous presenter at the Men’s Center.

Collaborative Team Divorce - A Dignified, Comprehensive and Cost-effective Process for Divorce
Presenter: Linda Wray and others

A group comprised of attorneys, licensed mental health professionals and a certified financial planner will describe a process, new in Minnesota, for use by divorcing couples. This process called Collaborative Team Divorce, provides the divorcing couple with a team of professionals from three independent disciplines, These professionals integrate the legal, emotional and financial aspects of divorce and assist the couple in reaching a comprehensive marriage dissolution agreement with dignity.

Linda K. Wray, Attorney and Mediator. Previously a public school teacher with an undergraduate degree in psychology, she has had her own client-centered family law practice for the past six years.
Bruce Peck, Attorney. Family practitioner for 25 years. Founding member of the Collaborative Law Institute.
Donna Mayotte, M.A., Licensed Psychologist. Has practiced marital therapy for 25 years, mediation and conflict resolution training.
Deborah Lemmensen, M.Eq. Licensed Psychologist with extensive background in child/adolescent assessment and therapy and family therapy. She is employed at Washburn Child Guidance Center and is a mental health consultant for Ramsey Action Program Head Start.
Chuck Tracy, Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. In private practice at the Center For Victims of Torture.
Joyce Pranchett, Certified Financial Planner and Certified Divorce Planner. Independent Financial Advisor since 1987. Trained in Collaborative Divorce.

Living Without Procrastination
Presenter:T. Aaron Ridge

To varying degrees, procrastination is problematic for most people. In on survey 40 percent of those polled reported that procrastination had cost them money in the past year. While it may be linked to more serious mental health issues, it can be assessed and treated in and of itself. This interactive course will focus on how to help individuals understand and define procrastination problems. We will explore strategy and interventions to eliminate this self-defeating behavior.

Learning objectives:

T. Aaron Ridge, MS, LP, LICSW, is a licensed psychologist, certified Bioenergetic therapist and a life coach. He is in private practice at the Center for Relationship Therapy in Northeast Minneapolis. Aaron has 15 years experience working with couples, individuals and families on relationship issues. He is a Keeping Love Alive group facilitator and instructor for the Minnesota State and Community Colleges. Aaron leads various groups and seminars, in corporations, organizations and at Open U. He has studied psychotherapy and personal growth with experts from all over the United States, including recently Solution Focused Therapy with Michelle Wiener-Davis and training at the Coaches Training Institute.

Anger and Intimacy A Male Perspective
Presenter: Bob Anderson

Anger can be a barrier or a bridge to intimacy. How can we own it and express it in ways that deepen rather than damage relationship? This presentation builds on the Men’s Center’s Anger Management program and looks at a positive definition of anger, harmful distortions of it, and connections with shame and intimacy from a male perspective. Lecture, discussion and sharing of experiences will be supplemented by group activities designed to heighten awareness, facilitate healing and develop helpful assertiveness and communications skills. This is an excellent introduction or review of some key concepts found in the Men Helping Men with Anger program.

Bob Anderson is a writer, former teacher and veteran facilitator with the Men’s Center’s Anger Management program.

Living Deliberatively

Living Deliberately means you decide for yourself what to believe and, therefore, what you want to experience. When you change your beliefs, you change your life. What are your answers to the big questions of Life -- Who am I? Where am I going? What is my life purpose? Come, explore, experience, discover YOU !

Elleva Joy is a licensed Avatar Master. She teaches a self empowerment training that presents practical and mystical tools to facilitate your life’s journey. She has been a guide on personal and spiritual path for almost 30 years. She had taught yoga, tai chi, movement meditation, A Course In Miracles, The Official Reiki Program. She has been a Trager Body work Practitioner and a hands-on healer. She brings a wealth of experience, wisdom and compassion to her presentation about Living Deliberately.

Men’s Rights In Divorce
Presenter: Jim Gerharter

Open to Men & Women

Jim will focus this presentation on men’s rights and responsibilities in domestic relationships, and pre-divorce actions which can help or hinder men in protecting their rights.

Jim Gerharter is a Minneapolis attorney who represents primarily men in domestic cases. He has made numerous presentations at the Men’s Center.

Men and Bereavement
Presenter: Dick Sellers
Wednesday, July 25, 7 - 9 pm
Open to Men & Women

This presentation will focus on how men deal with loss and bereavement. How do we engage or avoid pain and grief ? How do we go it alone or reach out for support ? How does our grieving over various losses affect our relationships, our work, our dreams and our health.

Dick Sellers is a Chaplin, Pastoral Counselor, and marriage and family therapist at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. He had been a member of the same men’s group for over 20 years.

Hot Stone Therapy
Presenter: Autumn Williams

Being in the Garden: Flowing with the Seasons of Life
Presenter: Louis Bourgeois

Open to Men and Women

Join Louis for an exploration of heart and soul. The Garden is a wonderful metaphor for living. Our journey is a circle, an endless cycle, away from and back to the Garden. We will investigate and discuss the four seasons of our lives, giving blessing to both the transitions of endings and beginnings.

Louis is an author and a gardener, living with his wife, Suzanne, in Plymouth. He is a longtime friend and member of the Men’s Center.
