The Men's Center Board appreciates the volunteer presenters who return from time to time and welcome first timers. Their presentations add a new dimension to our weekly Wednesday night gatherings.

Please take time to read the descriptions and plan to attend if they stimulate your interest. Bring a friend to share the experience and acquaint him/her with the Men's Center. Each presentation is intended to promote personal growth, stimulate your interest in a topic, and to give you an opportunity to interact with other attendees.

We are always looking for new presenters and topics. Please call Randy at The Men's Center, 612-822-5892 with your ideas and names. We appreciate your help.

The Men's Center is a RESOURCE for the community, a clearing house for information of all kinds, agreeable or not, to one's beliefs. Listen, participate and make your own decisions.

All groups meet at TMC, 3249 Hennepin Ave. So, Suite 55, unless otherwise noted. These low cost presentations are shown in the Calendar of Events and a more extensive description follows. No pre-registration is needed; entrance fees collected at the door are:

Issues Relating To Divorce
Presenter: Kelley Lorix

Kelley’s presentation will include how to prepare financially and strategically for a divorce, child support, spousal maintenance, custody and visitation - what options are and how it will affect support, property - what happens to the house, pensions and other items acquired during a marriage. This session will include question and answer session geared to helping you with the exact problems you may be faced with in your lives.

A private practice attorney, Kelley Lorix has better than fourteen years in state courts throughout Minnesota litigating, arbitrating and mediating the issues of concern to all of us as we go through divorce.

Seeing The Mind
Presenter: Erick Storlie

The human mind is vast - a universe in itself and the end point of millions of years of evolution. Meditative techniques help to give a direct awareness of this mind. Such experience can be healing and joyful, like visiting a mountain wilderness or pristine ocean beach. We will explore through discussion and practice some techniques to focus the mind and bring the body into an alert, relaxed posture. Wear loose comfortable clothing and bring two firm cushions.

Erik F. Storlie began a practice of sitting meditation in 1964 with Shunryu Suxuki Roshi. He studied with Dainin Katagiri Roshi, helping to found the Minnesota Zen Meditation Center, and is currently on its Board of Directors. Now retired from the English and Humanities faculty at Minneapolis Community and Technical College, his book Nothing On My Mind: Berkeley, LSD Two Zen Masters, and a Life on the Dharma Trail was published by Shambhala Press in 1996.

A Book Written By Celestial Beings That You Can Own

You will hear about the central and super universes, the local universe, the history of our planet, and the life and teachings of Jesus. It is called The URANTIA Book. It is 2097 pages of mind blowing concepts to experience. Could this be for real ? Could anyone write this ?

Not a religion, this is by people united together through the book to discuss, study and disseminate it. We are a registered not-for -profit corporation, the Minnesota Uranatia Association (MUA) through the International Urantia Association (IUA) under the authority of The URANTIA Foundation.

Living With Chronic Pain
Presenter: Norm Petrik

Norm urges persons with chronic pain to lead an active life, being assertive with their physicians and other health care providers, asking them what they should be doing, besides taking pain medication. For example, physical therapy, swimming, walking etc. Each person must do what he/she needs to do to feel better, and in his support group, they listen to each and encourage action to to do what they need to do, if. making healthy choices.

Norm Petrik, a member of the T.M.C Board, is a psychologist employed for 34 years at the St. Cloud V.A. Medical Center. He has been leading a chronic pain support group for 4 years, and has attended V.A. National Pain Conferences in November 1999 and March 2001.

Gentle Yoga
Presenter:Steve Cobian

Awaken your body and mind with this consciousness raising yoga practice. This class will build on the previous “Introduction to Yoga” class. No experience with yoga is necessary. We will work with self awareness techniques starting with breath, going into postures and ending with sound and a short meditation. You will leave feeling relaxed and focused. Dress comfortably and bring a towel or a mat.

Steve Cobian is a Kripalu Certified Yoga instructor and has been practicing structured healthy lifestyles for over 20 years. He has been a Men’s Center member for many years.

Creating Loving Relationships
Presenter: Peter Campbell

Your most deeply held beliefs are creating your experiences in life. If you want your relationships to improve, and you realize that this will mean changing your core beliefs, this seminar is for you. You will learn how having a healthy emotional life can open to having loving relationships. you will receive tools and techniques which, when used, will show you immediate results.

Peter Campbell is a minister and a graduate of Theophilus Divinity School. He has led workshops on self-esteem and relationships, releasing guilt and sacrifice, and he has also taught lessons on A Course In Miracles. Peter teaches what he lives, and that means surrendering to the wisdom behind his defenses.

Knowing Ourself Through Our Body
Presenter: Jim Amundson

Drawing on the techniques from a psychotherapy called Pesso Boyden psychomotor psychotherapy (PBSP) participants will focus on exploring and discovering what their bodies say is need to be happy and whole.

Although we are born knowing this information, often in learning our gender role - how to be a real man or real women p we learn that it’s necessary to suppress the knowledge of PBSP is that we carry this suppressed knowledge in our body. This presentation will be primarily an experiential evening of attempting to access our body’s knowledge.

Jim Amundson, PhD. is a licensed psychologist in private practice. He is a certified PBSP therapist and has a lifelong interest in gender issues for both men and women.

Human Development and Relationships
Presenter: Jerome Schoenecker

Why does human development have such a profound effect on our ability to relate with intimacy ? Why does it take so long and how can we accelerate our growth so we can attract more mature partners ? These questions and more will be discussed.

Jerome Schoenecker is a life coach and personal development trainer. He is currently the site coordinator for The Center For Father’s and Families in Hopkins, Minnesota.

The Purpose of Life Is To Be Happy
Presenter: Robert Parker

Robert Parker has spent many years motivating clients in real situations and using intuitive talents all individuals possess but often don’t use or don’t trust. He is presently working on books covering these areas. He is realistic and fun in his outlook. He is big fun not “big winded”. The talk will cover these hidden talents and each person can learn them for everyday life. He has found that people in general either try too hard to make things happen or they “almost” quit. He believes God gave us the means to be happy in all kinds of situations.

Robert Parker has no extensive business back prior to an during his twenty years as a professional psychic working with people such as Jeanne Dixon, Linda Goodman and many other professionals in the motivation, metaphysical and health fields. He has appeared on more than 800 radio and television shows since 1971. Noted in Marquis’ Who’s Who In America and Who’s Who in The World as well as many publishing Directories. He has lived in Minnesota since Christmas Eve, 1973 moving from New York City and New England.

Sexual Trauma
Presenter:John Bullough

Sexual Trauma, from a single incident to ongoing abuse, affects a man’s life in many different areas: from self-esteem, sexual behavior and work performance, to impairment in establishing and maintaining intimate relationships. This workshop is designed to be interactive in discussing the impact that sexual trauma has had on your (or a partner’s life. We will also talk about strategies to aid in the healing process.

John Bullough, LICSW, is a psychotherapist at the Neighborhood Involvement Program specializing in sexual trauma recovery. He practices in two NIP programs: the Rape & Sexual Assault Center and NIP Therapy Associates. John is previous presenter at the Men’s Center.
