Twenty-Five Years!
This is no less than the 25th Anniversary issue of MenTalk! The lead article is by Hank Bruns, who has been a very active member since 1979. We are having a special OPEN HOUSE for the community on Sunday, October 21, from 25 PM. Please come and bring your friends to see our facility and to honor our founding fathers at a 2:30 presentation. It is hard to estimate the number of lives that have been touched by the Men's Center. We continue to be the standard bearer for men's resources in the Twin Cities. Come and say thanks to Hank Bruns, Randy Genrich, Herb Jaehne, Andy Mickel, and the current and previous Board members for sustaining our organization over the past 25 years.
Financially speaking: Budget revenue projections are not being met, support group revenues are down from last year, Anger Management class revenue is ahead of schedule to offset the decline in support group contributions. Membership numbers are 326 as of September 1 and revenues are as projected. Our spending has been focused on the conference and general office expenses. A copy of the financial statement is available on the office door for viewing. Bob Anderson is very busy working on two grants that may come this year.
Program committee report: There is concern over our slumping numbers of attendees and dollars contributed at our support groups. Anger Management status report was received from Herb Jaehne at the Sept Board meeting; six classes have been held this year and the goal is for six more in the fall. New to Anger Management will be a PHASE II class for previous graduates of our regular class. Brainstorming has started on new groups as a result of the MHWB conference.
Outreach activities: John Rudd is leading the development of a new relationship with District 202 leaders. Our main planning effort focuses on the Anniversary Open House.
Remember that for 25 years the Men's Center has been important; it is important to the Twin Cities community; and it is important to the Men's movement in the United States. I hope that you all will see and realize this importance and VOLUNTEER your time and talents by serving on our committees.
Hoping you see Glory in your life,
John Kuyper,
Board Chair/MEN TALK Coordinator

WHY?
Why, if men are truly the more powerful sex:
- are men the suicide sex?
- do women live longer?
- does breast cancer research receive 660% more funding than prostate cancer research, even though men are just as likely to die from prostate cancer as women are of breast cancer?
For insight into these and other questions, VISIT THE MEN'S CENTER LIBRARY!
Check out The Myth of Male Power by Warren Farrell, Ph.D. This well-written, eye-opening book is available in the Library both in print and on audio tape.
Your library is available during daytime office hours (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) from 1:004:30, as well as before all support groups. The library is available during support groups on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
