TMC Administration Notes - April / May 2001

Letter from the Chair

Many exciting things are happening at the Men’s Center! The Planning meeting and subsequent Board meetings have approved the development of a major Fall Men’s Conference set for the weekend of October 20-21, corresponding with TMC’s 25th anniversary celebration. It will deal with “Men’s Health and Well-Being.” Andy Mickel is spearheading the project. We need volunteers to help plan and bring off all aspects of this conference!

Financially speaking; the Board approved a balanced budget of $59,000, the largest in the history of TMC. TMC received a special contribution from ADC’s “Dollars to Doers” program of $500 thanks to Robert Lundberg. If your employment has this or similar grant offerings, TMC would welcome any contributions. Membership committee chair Andy Mickel has set our goal to have 500 TMC members by the end of the year (This will include Anger Management attendees). Please renew and submit your membership now so Andy won’t have to call and hound you.

Program committee reported: a special Facilitator training session was held on Feb. 10 with 7 attendees. There is concern over our slumping numbers of attendees and of dollars contributed. An additional facilitator meeting is scheduled for April 7 to address support group issues.

Outreach activities were: setting up to participate in “Body, Mind, Life Expo 2001” on March 23-24. Acknowledgment was made of the publicity articles in Pulse of the Twin Cities and East Calhoun News (the latter thanks to Bob Anderson’s work). Planning for Pride has also started.

The Executive committee actions were: reviewed Director of Anger Manage-ment position with Herb Jaehne and continued his compensation until July 1 at a defined compensation plan; approved increase in Randy Genrich’s wage rate, and hired Harold Kallio as office coordinator to supplement and assist Randy.

Remember that the Men’s Center is important to me and you, it is important to the Twin Cities community; and it is important to the Men’s movement in the United States. I hope that you all will see and realize this importance and volunteer your time and talents by serving on our committees.

Hoping you see Glory in your life,

John Kuyper,
Board Chair/MEN TALK Coordinator
