TMC Administration Notes

Letter from the Chair

Significant happenings in the last two months include:

  • Executive Committee has decided not to pursue new Facility opportunity.
  • Board has been unable to conduct business due to a lack of quorum.
  • Three of the planned six Anger Management classes have started.
  • Anger Management name and address database updated.

Financially speaking:
This year's membership drive headed by Andy Mickel and John Carl Hancock has reached 262 members as of Nov 1, and revenues are at $7,938 (Budget was $7500 for total year). Support group contributions for Sept and Oct are 40% behind the previous year’s same month. We need a volunteer to step forward to develop a TMC Corporate Membership program.

Program committee reported:
The monthly Sunday Brunches continue to have over a dozen attendees. There were only seven attendees at the special Facilitator training in Oct., all of them from Anger Management. The regular bi-monthly Facilitator meeting has been discontinued due to lack of attendance. The next social event will be the Holiday party and pot luck dinner on Dec 17 at 5 PM. All existing support groups are showing a decline in attendance and in contributions per visitor.

Outreach activities were:
Continued follow-up on church mailing program. Jerry Olsen and Herb Jaehne gave a presentation to sixty people at VA Hospital on TMC offerings. Articles were published in the Wedge and Hopkins papers on TMC. Note advertising in Mpls Star Tribune Metro section under Share the Joy Banner will occur in Nov and Dec.

Executive Committee actions were:
Reviewed the decision on property and decided to not to pursue this particular offer. Continue working with MAPS to get more board members. Anger Management data base of inquires has been updated and more than 1000 are receiving MenTalk and follow-up from Herb.

Remember the Men’s Center is important to me and you; it is important to the Twin Cities community; and it is important to the Men’s movement in the United States. I hope that you all will see and realize this importance and VOLUNTEER your time and talents by serving on our committees or by filling some of the HELP WANTED positions.

Hoping you see Glory in your life,

-- John Kuyper, Board Chair/MENTALK Coordinator

Library Corner

The Men's Center has received several boxes of books from the personal libraries of Dan Sullivan and David Staehlin. These books will be a welcomed addition to our section on homosexuality. The next step in getting them on the shelf is to put in title cards with pockets and log them into our computer data base. HELP - even a few hours of your time would help get that job done. Please call me to volunteer at 612-822-5892.

I hope the library will become more accessible for you to use. The library is available during daytime office hours (M, T, Th, F) as well as evenings before support groups start since facilitators show up 15 minutes before group starting times. This if your library so feel free to come in and relax with beverage, bagel, and a book.

Current newsletters and magazines available include:
